On Tuesday evening, the city dismantled the traffic pulpit at Zurich Central - the last one in the city. Because traffic projects have simplified the situation at Central, the blue and white striped pulpit is no longer needed. Now it has been given a place of honor.

In the police building on Förrlibuckstrasse, as the city announced. After all, the pulpit has a "high traffic-historical value", the city said.

The traffic pulpit at Central has stood in this form at Central since 1951. Initially, police officers controlled the complex traffic junction at Central by hand from the traffic pulpit in the mornings and evenings - the Police Assistance Service (Pad) had been responsible for this since 1961.

In the fall of 2023, the city decided to discontinue the pad operation at Central. Eventually, several traffic projects at Central led to a slight decrease in traffic volumes, the complexity of the junction was reduced and the last traffic control booth became superfluous.

For many years, traffic lights characterized the image of important main intersections in the city of Zurich, such as Bellevue, Uraniastrasse and Münsterbrücke. They are regarded as relics from the period of mass motorization after the Second World War, which changed the city and its traffic areas.
