The Schlossbergstrasse underpass in Erstfeld UR, which is over 120 years old, is to be rebuilt and widened by one lane. The first work will start next month.

The Schlossbergstrasse underpass, which crosses under the track to the north of Erstfeld station, has reached the end of its service life and needs to be rebuilt, SBB announced on Thursday. The structure, built in 1901, will be one lane wider after the work.

Initial work is planned for October, including the laying of new service lines. According to SBB, this will be carried out during the day. During this time, pedestrians will be able to pass through the underpass, and detours will be signposted for bicycles and motorized traffic.

During the main work, which will take place from March 2025 to June 2025, the underpass will be completely closed, according to the press release.

According to the press release, the construction project will cost CHF 5 million. SBB and the municipality of Erstfeld are contributing to the costs.
