Schools Rosental secondary school in Basel evacuated

The pupils and teachers of the Rosental secondary school in Basel were evacuated as a precaution on Wednesday morning. The reason was an unstable exterior wall in the school's neighboring building.

During the demolition of an office building on Schwarzwaldallee owned by the canton, an external wall was leaning towards the school building, the canton announced. The construction company responsible quickly initiated safety measures and the school building was immediately evacuated as a precaution.

According to the statement, there was no danger to people in the school building or the surrounding area.

The affected rear wall was "successfully" dismantled on Wednesday afternoon, according to the statement. School operations can resume as normal on Thursday. The safety of the neighboring school is guaranteed, it added.
