In the canton of Baselland, the net costs of the wastewater bill have risen by 11 percent to CHF 35 million. The municipalities have to pay for the higher costs, as the Basel-Landschaft Department of Construction and Environmental Protection announced on Monday.

The reason for the increased costs is inflation, it said. The high electricity prices for large consumers were the main factor. This also included the sewage treatment plants.

According to the communiqué, the costs charged to the municipalities are based on the volume of water discharged into the sewage system. It is made up of the drinking and service water consumed, the rainwater discharged into the sewer system from sealed surfaces and the constantly flowing external water.

With a few exceptions, most municipalities would incur 10 to 20 percent higher costs than in the previous year.
