Swiss Air-Rescue rescued a climber from a vertical rock face in the canton of Graubünden on Thursday. The man, who was secured with a rope, had fallen around 25 meters and injured his ankle.

Two sport climbers were on the partially overhanging "Intifada Route" on the Schweizereck in the Rätikon, as Rega reported on Friday. To rescue them, a mountain rescuer from the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) flew to the patient on the wall.

For the rescue, the rescue rope on the helicopter was extended from 90 to 135 meters. The crew then brought both climbers one after the other to the intermediate landing site next to the wall. The injured climber was then flown to hospital.

At least once a year, the crews from Rega's mountain bases train the special procedure with the extended rescue ropes, the press release continued.
