In the first half of 2024, there was a series of arsons in the center of Elgg ZH and the surrounding area. In several cases, as yet unknown perpetrators set fire to buildings or attempted to set fire to buildings.
Investigations by the Zurich cantonal police and the public prosecutor's office in Winterthur/Unterland led to the arrest of a 44-year-old local Swiss woman on Sunday. This is what the police wrote in a statement.
The woman is strongly suspected of having committed the arson attacks in and around Elgg. Further investigations are ongoing. The public prosecutor's office has opened criminal proceedings against the woman, who has largely confessed, and applied to the compulsory measures court for pre-trial detention.
