After the Council of States, the National Council has also approved a proposal to increase the minimum health insurance deductible by the Federal Council. The adjustment is intended to better reflect the current cost situation in basic insurance.

The large chamber voted in favor of the proposal by Diana Gutjahr (SVP/TG) on Monday with 114 votes in favor, 75 against and 2 abstentions. The Council of States had already supported an identical proposal by Esther Friedli (SVP/SG) in the fall session.
The Federal Council also requested the adoption of the two identical motions in advance. The motions were opposed in both Councils by the left wing, which lost the vote in each case.
Since the Health Insurance Act came into force in 1996, the gross costs charged to compulsory health insurance (OKP) have more than tripled.
Those in favor of the adjustment hope that the insured will take more personal responsibility. Opponents fear that chronically ill and elderly people in particular will suffer from the increase in deductibles.
