Switzerland should not join the UN migration pact adopted in 2018. After the Council of States, the National Council has also spoken out in favor of this.

Following the National Council's no vote, the Federal Assembly simply took note of the pact's guiding principles in accordance with the adopted federal decree. The Councillors are also in favor of supporting international cooperation on migration. However, the Federal Assembly "supports" the fact that Switzerland does not agree to the pact.

The national government actually wanted to sign the pact back in 2018, but decided against it because Parliament demanded a say.

The UN migration pact sets out measures to regulate migration across borders. Among other things, it deals with aid in the countries of origin of migrants, their rights, but also with securing borders and combating smuggling gangs.
