A 25-year-old man wanted on a warrant was arrested by the German federal police at Basel's Badischer Bahnhof station on Monday. The Pole, who lives in Switzerland, had gone into hiding and tried to enter Germany on a long-distance train.

A Federal Police patrol checked the Polish national at Basel's Badischer Bahnhof station, the Weil am Rhein Federal Police Inspectorate announced on Tuesday. During the check, it emerged that an arrest warrant still had to be executed against the man.

A German court had sentenced the Pole to a fine last year for a violation of the anti-doping law. As the wanted man neither paid the fine nor served the substitute custodial sentence, the public prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant, according to a press release.

The man was unable to pay the 4800 euros demanded by the federal police at Badischer Bahnhof. He was therefore arrested and taken to the nearest correctional facility.
