The municipality of Kerns OW is considering a new location for the expansion of the waste disposal yard and the construction of a new depot: the construction project is to be realized in the area of the Hinterflue football pitch. In March, the municipal council suspended the project below the town hall.

The possible new location for the waste disposal yard is close to the Hinterflue football pitch, as the municipality announced on Thursday. The area belongs to the Kerns corporation. Kerns Football Club has the right to use the approximately 5,000 square meter site, while the Kerns wrestling club has two summer training grounds at this location.

According to the municipal council, there is still a long way to go before the project is realized. It is clear that the road, including the bridge, needs to be widened and the lighting improved. A great deal of attention must also be paid to traffic routing. In addition, the number of parking spaces, the storage area and a connection solution for the wrestling section would have to be considered.

Nevertheless, no other location for the waste disposal hall is currently being considered, according to the municipality. The settlement area often borders on residential areas, and otherwise cultivated land would be lost.

The municipality is critical of a joint location for waste disposal, the depot and the fire department at the planned site. However, the fire department is not under "direct pressure to move", the municipality wrote in the press release.

Kerns voters clearly approved the waste disposal and depot project at the ballot box in 2022. In March of this year, the municipal council suspended a possible project below the municipal building due to too many unresolved issues relating to building law, traffic and operations.
