The pumpkin exhibition at the Juckerfarm in Seegräben ZH has been shortened and now charges admission to reduce overtourism.
As a result, the number of visitors fell by 35 percent, which led to considerable financial losses.
There were several changes at the Juckerfarm in Seegräben ZH this year: The exhibition only lasted four weeks instead of the usual eight. The reason: the village of Seegräben is to be protected from overtourism. In addition, the bus route was also extended during the week. The aim: to minimize traffic in the village.
Juckerfarm also decided to introduce an entrance fee for the duration of the pumpkin exhibition. This was intended to minimize and ideally cover the loss of sales and the additional costs for the bus and admission controls, for example.
35 percent fewer guests at the Juckerfarm
Juckerfarm is now taking stock: the total number of guests has been reduced by 35 percent compared to 2021, according to a statement on the website.
This has resulted in massively lower emissions: "In the end, the additional expenditure and loss of revenue could not be covered by ticket income. The farm store and restaurant recorded 35 percent less turnover in September and October than in the previous year."
During the exhibition, sales were up or at least in the black on a few good days. Overall, however, the Juckerhof had to accept heavy losses in turnover, the press release continues. The bad weather also contributed to this.
It is still unclear what will happen next and whether the next pumpkin exhibition will be shortened from eight to four weeks. However, a "very positive discussion has already taken place with the municipality of Seegräben."
