Only a limited number of new jobs should be created in the Basel administration. Basel's young civic parties launched the "Bureaucracy Stop Initiative" on Tuesday.

The initiative demands, among other things, that the "number of full-time equivalents in the administration of the canton of Basel-Stadt may only grow in proportion to the resident population". This was announced by the Basel Young Liberals, the Young SVP, the Young Liberals and the Young Center. If the upper limit is to be exceeded, a two-thirds majority is required in the Grand Council.

According to the initiative committee, last year there was one cantonal employee for every 22 inhabitants. In 2012, there was still one full-time position for every 25.3 inhabitants.
