The Federal Council does not want to ban the Islamist Shiite militia Hezbollah. It rejects the corresponding demand of the responsible parliamentary committees and describes a ban as "inappropriate".

Parliament is currently discussing a ban on the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas and related organizations. This is largely undisputed. However, the Security Policy Committees of the National Council and Council of States (SIK-N/S) want to go further and also ban Hezbollah.

However, the Federal Council continues to reject this, as it writes in its statement published on Thursday on two identical motions by the SIK. It thus reaffirms the position it expressed in a report published in November 2022.

According to this, there is currently no UN ban resolution. This means that a fundamental requirement for a ban on organizations in Switzerland has not been met. Organizational bans should continue to be handled with caution.
