Philipp Matthias Bregy, parliamentary group leader of the Centre Party, has decided against running to succeed Viola Amherd as Federal Councillor. The reason for his decision is his family, as the Valais National Councillor said in an interview with the "NZZ am Sonntag" newspaper.

He has decided that a candidacy for the Federal Council is "out of the question for him at the moment", Bregy said in the interview with the newspaper. He would only experience the first years of his eight and three-year-old children's lives once.

Being a Federal Councillor is an "exciting task", said the man from Upper Valais. However, it is not his "absolute lifelong dream". Due to the situation and the fact that various people had approached him about it, he had seriously considered a candidacy. "But the decisive factor for me is my family," said the 47-year-old.
