  • Ex-CS CEO Tidjane Thiam has fallen victim to a blackmail attempt on Instagram.
  • He has filed a complaint with the relevant authorities.
  • This is not the first case of blackmail in the life of the manager and former Ivory Coast minister.

"I wanted to let you know that there has been an extortion attempt against me on Instagram," wrote ex-CS CEO Tidjane Thiam on the same social media platform.

He continued: "I have filed a complaint with the relevant authorities for false identity and blackmail." He has also commissioned cybersecurity experts to investigate. Thiam did not give any more details about the incident. This is how "Blick" reports it.

It is not the first attempt at blackmail that he has experienced, writes the manager and former minister of Côte d'Ivoire. Charges have already been brought against two people in two countries.

Resignation as CEO of CS after reputational damage

For five years - from 2015 to 2020 - Tidjane Thiam was Chairman of the Executive Board at Credit Suisse. He stepped down from his position as Group CEO after an affair surrounding the shadowing of two former members of the Executive Board led to reputational damage at the major Swiss bank. Following an internal bank investigation, Thiam was declared completely exonerated, saying he had known nothing about the shadowing.

He is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of the investment firm Freedom Acquisition Corp in London.
