A 33-year-old cyclist from Poland sustained serious injuries in a self-inflicted accident on the Gotthard road on Saturday morning. The Uri rescue service took him to the cantonal hospital, as the police reported on Sunday.

The man had been traveling downhill in the Schöllenen in a group of eight people. In the Brüggwaldboden gallery, he said he had to swerve out of the way of an oncoming vehicle. He veered too far to the right, touched the concrete wall and fell onto the road.
