Bern Car fire in Ostermundigen causes damage to house

A nearby apartment building was also affected by the fire in a parked car on Tuesday evening. It is no longer habitable in part. Arson is suspected.

According to statements, a person was spotted near the vehicle shortly before the fire broke out, as reported by the regional public prosecutor's office and the Bern cantonal police on Wednesday. It is suspected that this person is connected to the fire.

The police have started an investigation and do not rule out arson as the cause.

No one was injured in the incident. The fire broke out shortly before 10.30 p.m. on Obere Zollgasse. The vehicle involved was a total loss. Obere Zollgasse had to be closed for several hours for the extinguishing work.

The people affected in the damaged apartment building were able to find alternative accommodation.
