Anyone driving on the roads of the Jura does not have to stop at a red light anywhere. The reason for this is that the rather rural canton has no traffic lights at all. And this will remain the case when the small town of Moutier becomes part of the Jura in 2026.
As the canton of Jura knows, the last traffic lights in the town, which is still part of the Bernese Jura, were removed in 1989. Traffic lights in the Jura are still only used at level crossings or construction sites.
The Canton of Jura has collected these and many other tangible everyday questions from citizens in connection with the change of canton and answered them on its website.
"How much tax do I pay in the new canton?" is one of them. "Will my passport and identity card remain valid?" is another. In addition to questions about the fire department, waste disposal, water supply and political rights, there are also questions about road traffic.
The canton of Jura promises that changing license plates is free of charge. The same goes for changes to your driving license.
