The canton of Aargau and the municipalities want to jointly drive forward the digitalization of the administration. State Premier Markus Dieth and Patrick Gosteli, President of the Association of Municipal Councillors and SVP Councillor, have therefore signed a declaration of intent on "Digital Administration Aargau".

It is a common goal to further intensify cooperation in the area of digital administration, the State Chancellery of Aargau announced on Wednesday. The declaration of intent was also signed by all eleven municipal associations.

A study will be carried out at the start of the "Digital Administration Aargau" project. The result should be on the table in 2026. "We want to expand digital services for our residents and our companies and simplify administrative processes," said Landammann Dieth (center) in the press release.

Some things are already possible

The canton and municipalities are already pulling in the same direction with the "Smart Aargau" organization. The Smart Service Portal was launched two years ago as a central point of access to various services.

The portal can be used to redeem a vehicle, download civil status forms and an extract from the debt collection register or a confirmation of residence. According to Gosteli, 85 percent of municipalities are participating in "Smart Aargau".
