The city of Lucerne has extended the rental agreement with the Pro Ticino Lucerna association until the end of 2025. Originally, the association's boccia hall and other premises at Schäferweg 6 were to make way for the city's road inspectorate.

The rental agreement was due to be terminated at the end of 2024, as the city of Lucerne wrote in a press release on Wednesday. Due to critical reactions, it agreed in June 2024 to look for alternative solutions for the location of the road inspectorate together with the tenants.

The Road Inspectorate's Operations and Road Maintenance department is divided into the West, East and South districts. According to the city, the provisional location of the South district near Eichwald - consisting of construction and shipping containers - is "unsatisfactory".

The premises are fully occupied and no further optimizations are possible. In addition, there are no separate checkrooms and wet rooms. The city's intention was therefore to use its neighboring property at Schäferweg 6. This is home to the Pro Ticino Lucerna association with its subgroup "Gruppo Bocciofilo", the KuBra association and the IG-Arbeit.

The situation in the eastern part of the city at the Wey depot on Englischgrussstrasse was also inadequate. A new location was found for them at Lädelistrasse 10/12. This can be occupied from September 23.

The Operations and Road Maintenance department employs a total of 90 people. They keep public spaces and infrastructure clean.
