Around 500 liters of diesel leaked in an accident in an industrial zone in Tavannes BE on Monday morning. No one was injured.

At around 9 a.m., a forklift truck was traveling in the industrial zone off Rue de la Dout. For reasons as yet unexplained, the forklift truck damaged the tank of a truck. Some of the diesel in the tank escaped, according to the Bern cantonal police.

Around 500 liters leaked into the sewage system and into the Birs. The fire department was able to quickly set up barriers in the stream bed so that there was no significant environmental pollution. Representatives of the Cantonal Office for Water and Waste were on site.

The Bern cantonal police have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the accident and the extent of the material damage.
