A crayfish that got lost on the main road in Glarus on Monday for unknown reasons met with a lot of human kindness. A young man, the cantonal police and the hunting administration got involved to return the animal to its natural habitat.

The presumably lost crayfish was discovered by a 21-year-old man as he rode his moped through the cantonal capital. "He bravely picked up the dehydrated animal and brought it to the Glarus police station," wrote the cantonal police on Tuesday. There, the aquatic animal was immediately given water in a container.

Clarifications with the Department of Hunting and Fishing revealed that the foundling was a native crayfish. A short time later, the animal was returned to its familiar, wet environment by police officers in the "Tankgraben" in Näfels.

How the crayfish ended up on the main road in Glarus remains a mystery, according to the press release. One possible explanation is that a bird of prey snatched the crayfish and lost it en route.
