Switzerland is experiencing a continuous increase in the number of cross-border commuters. According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), around 403,000 people with a cross-border commuter permit G were employed in Switzerland at the end of September, an increase of 2.4 percent compared to the previous year.

The majority of these workers come from neighboring countries. More than half of cross-border commuters, around 57%, live in France. Italy and Germany follow with 23% and 16% respectively of cross-border commuters working in Switzerland.

Long-term increase in the number of cross-border commuters
