The Swiss parahotel industry recorded slightly fewer overnight stays in the third quarter of 2024. Almost two thirds of the guests counted in vacation apartments, campsites and collective accommodation came from Switzerland.

The parahotel industry in Switzerland recorded a total of 7.3 million overnight stays from July to September, as the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) announced on Monday based on provisional figures. This is 1 percent less than in the same period last year. A decline of around 5 percent had already been recorded in the first half of the year.

In the third quarter, around 62 percent of overnight stays were attributable to domestic guests. This means that the proportion of foreign visitors increased by 1 percentage point compared to the previous year.

Campsites accounted for the largest share: With 3.1 million overnight stays, they were responsible for a good 42 percent of all overnight stays generated in the para-hotel industry. A total of 2.1 million guests stayed in commercially managed vacation apartments. Collective accommodation, such as youth hostels or SAC huts, also recorded 2.1 million overnight stays in the third quarter.
