The Swiss hotel industry welcomed more guests in August than in the same month last year. In the last summer month, 3.5 percent more overnight stays were recorded than a year ago, as the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) announced on Monday based on an initial estimate.

The hotel industry once again benefited from the recovery among guests from abroad. Here, the increase in August was 3.7 percent compared to the previous year.

In contrast to the first two summer months, the local hotel industry also recorded more overnight stays from Swiss guests. In August, hotels recorded 3.3 percent more overnight stays among domestic guests.

Continuing on record course

From January to July, the total number of overnight stays had already risen by 2.0% to 24.8 million compared to the previous year. This was more than ever before in the first seven months of a year.

The Swiss hotel industry thus remains on course to exceed last year's record of 41.8 million overnight stays for the year as a whole. The definitive and absolute figures for overnight stays in August will be published by the FSO on October 4.
