A Swiss and a Frenchman have died in the crash of a glider in the French Alps. The plane had been missing since Wednesday. Its wreckage with the two bodies was found on Friday at an altitude of 2806 meters above sea level in the municipality of Vars (F).

The glider had taken off from the Aspres sur Buëch airfield in the Hautes-Alpes department in the south-east of the country near the Italian-French border on Wednesday, according to the public prosecutor's office in the prefecture of Gap on Saturday. The 45-year-old French pilot and his 58-year-old Swiss passenger were on vacation in the region.
According to the French news agency AFP, the plane was reported missing at around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. It was found in the Val d'Escreins in Vars at around 3.30 p.m. on Friday. The cause of the crash was not known on Saturday. The gendarmerie of the Hautes-Alpes department and the air accident authority began an investigation.
