As the airline announced early Tuesday morning, two special flights are planned to bring passengers and crew safely back to Zurich. The first special flight is scheduled to take off tonight, according to Swiss. A second flight is planned for tomorrow morning and the passengers and crew members will be accommodated in hotels in Graz in the meantime.

The plane was on its way from Bucharest to Zurich with 74 passengers and five cabin crew members. The aircraft had to make an emergency landing due to engine problems and smoke in the cabin and cockpit. The aircraft was landed safely and evacuated. Following the incident, five crew members and twelve passengers sought medical treatment, the Lufthansa subsidiary announced. One crew member was even flown by helicopter to a hospital. His condition remains unclear, Swiss wrote in a communiqué. The passengers were subsequently cared for by the airport's crisis intervention team.

Graz Airport was closed due to the incident. The Airbus A220-300 was removed from the runway, according to the communiqué. Swiss stated that it was in close contact with the authorities and was working intensively to clarify the cause of the incident.
