Strong storms and tornadoes swept across large parts of the central and southern USA overnight, causing damage. In the state of Missouri, at least three people died in the storms late on Friday, according to reports from several television stations. The extent of the damage was still unclear in the early morning, reported CNN.

NBC reported that more than 400,000 people in the Midwest and southern USA were without power. Buildings were destroyed. Videos from the region showed several trucks overturning in the storm. Around 138 million people in the region were threatened by the storms, NBC further reported.

CNN reported that weather services warned of more tornadoes in the morning.
