In the canton of Bern, for example, there were around 40 road accidents. Most of these were self-inflicted accidents, said a spokeswoman for the Bern cantonal police when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. There was minor damage to property, but no one was seriously injured.

In the canton of Schwyz, the police reported around a dozen accidents. Drivers skidded off the road, got stuck in grassland or collided with crash barriers, parts of walls, stones or a candelabra. Ten accidents were reported in the canton of St. Gallen.

The Bernmobil public transport company had to suspend various bus routes in the meantime. Streetcars were not affected.

Great danger of avalanches

In the high Alps, over a meter of snow had fallen in places, Meteonews wrote on its website. The current avalanche danger is very high in some places due to large snow loads with drift snow accumulations. According to the avalanche bulletin from the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF, Valais and the rest of the Alps are affected.
