Russian hackers attacked several Swiss municipal and bank websites on Tuesday. The Federal Office for Cybersecurity had expected such attacks during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The hackers were demonstrating online, so to speak, and wanted to attract attention, the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (FOCS) said on Tuesday in response to an inquiry. The Bacs thus confirmed a report by the news portal Bluewin.ch. The Russian hacking group "NoName" was responsible for the so-called DDoS attacks. According to the report, the Zurich and Vaud Cantonal Banks as well as the municipalities of Lucerne, Adligenswil LU, Kriens LU and Ebikon LU were among those affected.

According to the Bacs, distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks involve overloading websites and applications with targeted requests so that they are no longer accessible. No data would flow out during a DDoS attack.

The same hacker group had already paralyzed several federal administration websites in June 2023.
