Switzerland has received an appointment from the USA for a meeting with the Trump administration. The head of Seco, Helene Budliger Artieda, will officially travel to Washington next week. Details of the visit are not yet known.

Fabian Maienfisch, media spokesperson for the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco), confirmed a report by the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper on Saturday at the request of Keystone-SDA. It was a matter of feeling things out; there would be no negotiations or agreements.

The quick appointment for the Seco director is a surprise. At present, the waiting time for a visit to US President Donald Trump's administration is several weeks. According to Maienfisch, it is not yet clear on which day of the week the top diplomat will travel to the United States, with whom she will speak and what the content of the talks will be.

For Switzerland, however, the aim is likely to be to prevent a trade war with the USA. The US has already placed Switzerland on a list of countries with "unfair trade practices".
