The meat substitute manufacturer Planted is expanding its production abroad. To this end, the start-up is building a new factory in Memmingen, Bavaria.

The new location on a former brewery site will go into operation at the beginning of 2025, as the start-up announced on Tuesday. More than 50 jobs are to be created.

The location is ideal, as Germany is already Planted's most important export market with a 75 percent share. The company will also supply the other EU markets from there.

The new factory will double production capacity, said a Planted spokeswoman when asked by the news agency AWP. There is also the option of further expanding production on the site.

Meanwhile, capacity limits are being reached at the main site in Kemptthal. Some orders have already had to be postponed until 2025, the spokesperson continued.

Planted is receiving regional economic development funding. In addition, a solid concept for realization has been developed with the owner and banking partners.

Planted was founded in 2019. The sausages, chicken and steaks made from plant-based proteins are now available in more than 6,100 restaurants and over 8,700 retail outlets in Europe.
