"We remember with gratitude that Switzerland was among the first countries to send rescue teams during the devastating floods in Pakistan in 2022," wrote the head of government of the South Asian state with a population of around 236 million.

Sharif also expressed his condolences to President Viola Amherd. She responded to the Prime Minister's words: "Thank you for your sincere words and your support in difficult times in some regions of our country. We greatly appreciate the strong friendship between Pakistan and Switzerland," Amherd wrote on X on Tuesday morning.

In the summer of 2022, Pakistan suffered the worst floods ever recorded in its history. Almost 1700 people lost their lives. At one point, a third of the country was under water. Experts blame climate change for the increase in extreme weather in Pakistan.
