More than half of young men and women are considered to be well trained. Around 80 percent of young people meet the federal government's exercise recommendations and are sufficiently active. These were the results of the Army 2023 fitness test.

Anyone who does at least 150 minutes of moderate sport or 75 minutes of intensive exercise every week is considered sufficiently active. Only 4.7 percent of those tested are considered inactive, the army announced on Monday. In 2022, the proportion of well-trained young people was 52.8 percent, slightly below the 2023 figure of 55.3 percent. In the last three years, the proportion of trained young people has risen by six percent. The reasons for this increase cannot be clearly stated.

The data collected also shows that the proportion of overweight conscripts is rising slightly. According to the army, this reflects the general social trend.

The army's fitness test comprises five exercises: standing long jump, medicine ball kick, trunk strength test, one-leg stand and endurance run. The evaluation is based on data from 34,343 young people, 642 of whom were women.
