Specifically, the OBI Group will take over all ten existing OBI locations and a store still under construction in Agno (TI), as Migros announced on Wednesday. For the past 25 years, OBI stores in Switzerland have been operated by Migros as a franchising system.
The OBI Group is also buying Migros' Do it + Garden locations in Carouge GE and Nyon VD. Migros has been looking for buyers for its DIY stores for some time. The sales processes for the Micasa and Do it + Garden specialist stores are continuing, it was reported. The companies did not provide any information on the purchase price.
The 576 employees and 61 apprentices currently working in the stores will continue to be employed by the OBI Group. Should there be job cuts at OBI stores in the decentralized organizations of the Migros Group, Migros will seek solutions within the company for the employees affected, the retailer wrote.
