The number of deaths following the flood disaster in the Czech Republic has risen to four.

The body of a 70-year-old woman who had been missing for days was discovered in the municipality of Kobyle nad Vidnavkou, according to the police.

The village is located in the Jesenik district in the north-east of the country. The area in the Jesenik Mountains on the border with Poland was hit particularly hard by the storms. At least seven people are still missing in the Czech Republic.

Where the water has receded, the big clean-up operation has begun. Drinking water and power generators are being distributed. According to the Ministry of Defense, more than 300 soldiers are being deployed to support the civilian authorities: among other things, they are to build replacement bridges.

According to the mayor of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal, it could take years to repair the damage. In the third-largest city in the Czech Republic, an entire district, the main railway station, a district heating power station and the sewage treatment plant were flooded.
