More comfortable seating and less than a four-minute wait: the new Starbucks boss Brian Niccol is planning a makeover to reverse the decline in business at the world's largest coffee house chain.

In US locations, there will also no longer be a surcharge for milk alternatives. Overall, there are too many options for adapting drinks, criticized Niccol. They add up too quickly, slow down service and are too complex. This is the case with the syrup variations, for example: "One splash, four splashes - I'm still trying to understand how the whole system works."
Niccol came to Starbucks from the fast food chain Chipotle, which specializes in Mexican cuisine. There he ensured growth and higher profits.
The figures for the last quarter showed just how big Starbucks' problems currently are. Turnover fell by three percent to 9.1 billion dollars. In the important US home market, there were a tenth fewer transactions - this was cushioned somewhat by the fact that customers spent an average of four percent more per purchase.
Niccol called the results "very disappointing". He announced that Starbucks would not be raising prices in the new financial year that began at the end of September.
