In Switzerland, there are more and more fraudulent calls in the name of alleged authorities. Three times more such cases were reported to the Federal Office for Cyber Security last year than in the previous year.

As the Federal Office for Cybersecurity (FOCS) announces on its website, it received almost 22,000 reports in 2024 - around 14,800 more than in the previous year. This increase also meant that the Bacs received more reports of cyber incidents in 2023 than in the previous year.

There were around 63,000 reports compared to around 50,000 in the previous year. This corresponds to an increase of 26 percent. The increase was "almost exclusively" due to the phenomenon of threatening calls in the name of alleged authorities, such as the police.

The Bacs observed a sharp increase in fraudulent prize draws. It has also noticed that fraudsters are sending letters asking recipients to scan a QR code. Instead of an app, the victims download malware onto their phone.
