The online service Tiktok has announced that it will cut hundreds of jobs worldwide due to the increased use of artificial intelligence (AI) in content moderation.

A spokesperson for the platform, which belongs to the Chinese Bytedance Group, announced on Friday that it would invest two billion dollars in "trust and security" and further improve the "effectiveness" of these efforts. According to the statement, 80 percent of "infringing content" is now removed by "automated technologies".

Tiktok uses a combination of human moderators and automated detection to review the content published on the platform. In recent months, there has been speculation that the company will significantly reduce its operational business and marketing staff worldwide. Tiktok parent company Bytedance employs more than 100,000 people in more than 200 cities worldwide, according to the website.

The company did not specify in which countries the jobs will be cut. However, it is assumed that a large number of the job cuts will affect Malaysia. In the Southeast Asian country, large technology companies have recently come under increasing regulatory pressure due to malicious and inflammatory content on online platforms.
