Mercedes-Benz sold fewer vehicles last year than in the previous year. Despite a slight recovery in business in China in the fourth quarter, Group-wide sales of cars and vans fell by four percent to just under 2.4 million in 2024.

In China, sales of the Mercedes-Benz Cars passenger car division slumped by seven percent for the year as a whole, as Mercedes-Benz announced in Stuttgart on Friday, despite the company selling three percent more cars there in the fourth quarter than in the same period last year.
China is the most important sales market for the major German car manufacturers. In the meantime, they are having to contend with strong competition from domestic manufacturers, who are outstripping them in electric cars. Sales of battery-powered cars have grown immensely in the country.
Mercedes-Benz Cars, on the other hand, sold almost a quarter fewer electric cars last year than the year before. Sales fell by 23 percent - in the fourth quarter by as much as 26 percent.
