Mark Zuckerberg has given his wife Priscilla Chan an oversized gift: the Facebook founder had a statue made that looks like Chan.

Zuckerberg shared a photo on Instagram showing Priscilla Chan in front of the work in a garden. The sculpture towers over her human model, her body is turquoise and covered in a kind of silver veil.

"I am bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of one's own wife," the 40-year-old wrote. He also thanked the US artist Daniel Arsham, who created the sculpture and also showed the image on his Instagram account.

Mark Zuckerberg refers to "Roman tradition"

In his post, the entrepreneur leaves open which tradition Zuckerberg is referring to. In ancient Rome, gods, rulers and heroes were popular motifs for statues.

"In addition, they mainly depict men," writes Der Spiegel, adding: "The fact that a husband had a statue made of his wife was more likely to honor her after her death. It was a way of remembering her. These were usually also portrait busts, not sculptures."

In the Instagram photo, Priscilla Chan wears a pink bathrobe and holds a cup in her hand that is as turquoise as the statue.

Chan also shares the picture on Instagram. "I can't be missed," she writes.

Mark Zuckerberg, the head of today's Meta Group, and pediatrician Priscilla Chan met as students at Harvard University. The couple married in 2012 and have three daughters together.
