A man in an electric wheelchair has thrown several incendiary devices at the Norwegian Royal Palace in Oslo. He first told an eyewitness that he was carrying a bomb. He then threw two Molotov cocktails at the back of the castle.

Flames broke out, but had already been extinguished. The situation was under control and the man was quickly apprehended.

The background to the crime initially remained completely unclear. Footage published by the newspaper "Verdens Gang" showed flames in front of a large castle door and police officers extinguishing them with fire extinguishers. The royal court told the NRK radio station that it was still unclear how much damage had been caused.

According to NRK, some members of the royal family were also in the castle. However, they were not the royal couple or the family of Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit.

The royal palace, where King Harald V resides together with his wife Queen Sonja (both 87), is located in the center of the Norwegian capital Oslo. It is surrounded by a large castle park.
