A man has killed several people in a retirement home in Croatia and was subsequently arrested. This was confirmed by the Croatian police at the request of the "index.hr" portal. The police did not provide any information on the number of fatalities.

According to media reports, the man in the retirement home also killed his mother, who lived there. According to the reports, the five victims also included other residents of the home and a carer.

The armed man had entered the retirement and nursing home in Daruvar in central Croatia and fired for unclear reasons. Five victims were killed instantly and others were injured, reported "index.hr".

The attacker was confronted and arrested by police in a café shortly afterwards. The suspect was a retired military policeman born in 1973, reported the portal "mojportal.hr".

Health Minister Vili Beros, Minister of Labor, Pension System, Family and Social Policy Marin Piletic and Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic are expected at the scene of the crime. Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic will also comment on the fatal attack this afternoon.
