Following a fatal argument in Tavannes in mid-September, new findings have led police to believe that the incident was either a negligent homicide or an accident. A man who was arrested in connection with the incident was released from custody on Tuesday.

Based on the latest findings, there are no indications of an intentional act by the 43-year-old accused, as the regional public prosecutor's office and the Bern cantonal police announced on Wednesday.

The argument took place on the evening of September 20 on Grand-Rue in Tavannes. When the police arrived shortly after 22, they found two people injured. A 37-year-old man succumbed to them.

The man died of stab wounds, as the police announced shortly afterwards. They arrested a 43-year-old suspect who was only slightly injured and carried out extensive investigations into the background to the altercation. These investigations are continuing, as the police wrote in a statement on Wednesday.
