A boy from Japan who was stabbed in southern China has died of his injuries in hospital. This was reported by Japanese media citing the Japanese consulate in Guangzhou, China. A 44-year-old man had injured the ten-year-old with a knife on his way to a Japanese school in the metropolis of Shenzhen on Wednesday. The background is still unclear.

Japan summoned the Chinese ambassador in Tokyo and called for security at Japanese schools in China to be tightened. It was only at the end of June that a Japanese woman and her child were attacked and injured by a man in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou. A Chinese woman who intervened at the time was killed. In this case too, the man's motive is still unknown.

The diplomatic relationship between Japan and China is also considered tense due to the warlike past of both countries.
