In the Italian town of Cassino, which has a population of around 35,000, a letter carrier was discovered to have failed to deliver numerous letters over a period of ten years. The discovery came to light after more and more citizens complained about missing bills and subsequent reminders.

The police became aware of the woman and searched her home, where they came across a mountain of undelivered mail. The officers found letters weighing a total of 40 kilograms. The oldest document she had withheld was an electricity bill from 2014.

The letter carrier was relieved of her duties and now faces the possibility of being charged with "misappropriation of correspondence". Dismissal seems likely. There is currently no clear explanation for her behavior. Investigators are also looking into whether she also withheld or opened parcels, which could lead to additional legal consequences for violating postal secrecy.

Investigations and consequences

The authorities are also investigating whether the letter carrier may have kept other mail items for herself. If it turns out that she has opened parcels, this could lead to further charges. Legal action against the woman is underway and the consequences could be severe.

Reactions of those affected

The residents of Cassino are shocked by the revelations. Many of them had wondered about missing mail over the years, but no one had guessed the extent of the problem. The town council has promised to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that such an incident does not happen again.
