Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi wants to implement a so-called "victory plan" this year in order to bring an end to the war with Russia.

"The entire plan is based on quick decisions by our partners, which must come immediately between October and December. Then the plan will work," said Selenskyj at a joint press conference with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Kiev.

As most of the decisions on the implementation of the plan depended on US President Joe Biden, he would discuss the details with him first and not announce them beforehand, said Selenskyj. He did not say which outcome of the war he wanted to present as a victory.

The head of state merely reiterated his intention to hold a second international peace summit in November. According to him, a "final point in the war" could already be set at this summit. Kiev is already acting according to a "Plan B", as "Plan A" consisted of preventing the Russian invasion by supplying weapons to Ukraine and imposing sanctions against Russia.

Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years. In June, a first so-called peace summit was held in Switzerland without the participation of Russia.

Nevertheless, the war in Ukraine continues unabated and has since expanded into Russian territory with the advance of Ukrainian troops into the Kursk border region. Kiev has long been pushing for the release of Western long-range missiles for use in the Russian hinterland.
