The use of drones has changed warfare, he said at a meeting of the Ukraine Contact Group at the German US airbase in Ramstein (Rhineland-Palatinate). Ukraine was rapidly expanding its drone capabilities, he said, and this would help to defend against the Russian attack. "Please invest in this strength of Ukraine!" said Selenskyj.
He also asked the 50 or so supporting countries for more anti-aircraft weapons - especially in view of devastating Russian airstrikes such as the recent one in Zaporizhia that left 13 dead. The allies must also cut off the Kremlin's income with stronger sanctions against the Russian energy sector, said Selenskyj.
Pistorius thanks outgoing US colleague Austin
The meeting in Ramstein is the last before the departure of US President Joe Biden. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius thanked his outgoing US colleague Lloyd Austin, who had coordinated the Ramstein format since April 2022. "Thank you for your extraordinary leadership over the past years," said Pistorius. It is now up to everyone to keep this format alive.
