This was announced by the organizers on Sunday evening. Over four days, 200 young people aged between 14 and 21 gathered in the Federal Palace. Among other things, they discussed specific topics in working groups and then adopted twelve demands.

These relate, for example, to artificial intelligence, mental health and mobility and were presented to National Council President Eric Nussbaumer (SP/BL) in the last hour of the session on Sunday.

The Prix Jeunesse, which honours special political commitment to young people, was awarded this year to the Stop Suicide organization. It is committed to the prevention of suicide among young people. According to the press release, this is the second time in just a few years that the prize has been awarded to an organization in the field of mental health.

Amherd promotes real conversations

On Saturday, the young people met with President Viola Amherd. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of open discussions - "at a time when our society is finding it increasingly difficult to have real conversations - face to face". Because such conversations require "patience, time and the will to really listen to each other".

The courage and confidence to commit to a cause with complete conviction; these are values that outlast the changing times. After all, democracy is ultimately only as strong as the willingness of its citizens from all generations to get actively involved and seek compromise.

The ability to compromise is not something that can be taken for granted; every generation has to learn and cultivate it for itself. And that is why she is delighted that the participants in the youth session practiced these important qualities with so much passion.
