France's left-wing camp has failed in its attempt to bring down the country's new center-right government. A vote of no confidence by the left-wing parties against the cabinet of Prime Minister Michel Barnier failed to achieve a majority in the Paris National Assembly.

Only 197 of the 577 MPs withdrew their confidence in the government of the former EU Commissioner. The left, communists, greens and socialists are all against the new government's political line. The motion of censure also stated that its composition was tantamount to disregarding the election results.

In the parliamentary elections at the beginning of July, the left-wing camp came out on top, although it was around 100 seats short of an absolute majority. It insisted on forming the government. It did not submit a proposal for a coalition with other parties or toleration by other forces. The other political camps threatened to topple a left-wing government. Barnier's government does not have a majority either. However, it has so far been de facto tolerated by Marine Le Pen's right-wing nationalists.
